The Australian Shepherd is an intelligent, active working breed with a strong capacity for learning. It needs suitable physical activity and mental stimulation; however, a stable temperament is not defined solely by activity level. It also involves managing arousal, settling again and resting appropriately.
Dylan — Male
Dylan is a young male who is still developing. He is larger, carries himself very well and has a golden-and-white coat.
He displays traits typical of a young Australian Shepherd, including higher energy, greater curiosity and more intense activity, all entirely normal for his age.
Even so, Dylan shows good overall balance and an appropriate ability to manage arousal. His energy should not be confused with nervousness or lack of control.
His behaviour with people is very good. He also showed an excellent attitude with male and female dogs, puppies and adults.
Combined assessment of Sky and Dylan
Both dogs show a good level of socialisation and a balanced temperament.
A particularly positive aspect was their ability to move from activity to rest. After three runs, both Sky and Dylan relaxed in the shade while the other dogs continued playing.
This ability is especially relevant: a balanced dog can become active when appropriate, but can also stop, relax and rest properly.
Dylan’s higher energy is consistent with his age and development. He already shows a good ability to regulate himself and settle after activity.
Conclusion: Sky and Dylan are well-socialised Australian Shepherds. They are sociable with people and other dogs, balanced and good-natured. The main difference relates to the energy expected at Dylan’s age, not to any significant difference in stability or behaviour.
